Obverse: hive surrounded by 16 bees; lettering = T. CARTWRIGHT & G & R. FERNS, STOCKPORT. Reverse: sitting female, holding scales; lettering = ONE SHILLING SILVER TOKEN, 1812. The tokens were used as a means of payment at the time due to a shortage of official coins.
