Obverse: hive surrounded by 15 bees; lettering = G & R FERNS & T. CARTWRIGHT, STOCKPORT. Reverse: female holding scales; lettering ONE SHILLING SILVER TOKEN, 1812, Y&D. The tokens were used as a means of payment at the time due to a shortage of official coins.
