Obverse: hive with flying bees; lettering = No 29 BULL STREET BIRMINGHAM 1792 (flaw on letters I and R). Reverse: lettering = DONALD & Co, STOCKING MANUFACTURERS WHOLESALE & RETAIL, PROMISSORY HALFPENNY, PAYABLE AT NOTHINGm OR. The tokens were used as a means of payment at the time due to a shortage of official coins.
